In Support of Judy “Chie” Hasegawa
Join SARA, AIA Brooklyn, and the greater design community as we come together to support Judy during her recovery.
Judy “Chie” Hasegawa, AFF. SARA, has long been one of the people who helps bring our architecture and design community together.
Through her work with SARA, AIA Brooklyn, SARA New York, and the broader AEC community, Judy has created space for connection, mentorship, student support, fundraising, and professional community. She has hosted events, organized gatherings, welcomed students and emerging professionals, led walking tours, attended programs across New York City, and continually gone above and beyond to support the people around her.
Now Judy is facing a serious heart-health journey and needs the support of the community she has so often supported.
Judy was rushed to Mount Sinai after a medical emergency and has been in the hospital receiving care. While she is thankfully no longer on life support, her recovery remains significant, and those close to her are hopeful that she will continue to improve and avoid the need for a heart transplant.
SARA’s mission is Architect helping Architect. But that mission does not stop at architects alone. It is about architects helping the community, strengthening the relationships that sustain our profession, and showing up for the people who have shown up for us.
Judy is a leader in that community. She is a national affiliate board member of SARA, a fixture within AIA Brooklyn, and someone who has helped create the spaces where our members, students, sponsors, and friends come together.
It is now time for our industry to support one of our own and give back.

We look forward to celebrating Judy with you.
Can’t Attend? You Can Still Help.
If you are unable to attend the August 6 event, please consider making a donation through Judy’s SupportNow page.
Every contribution helps support Judy during this difficult recovery period and reminds her that the community she has built, welcomed, and encouraged is standing with her now.
Judy and AIA Brooklyn
Judy Hasegawa is an asset everywhere she goes. She brings her signature positive energy and enthusiasm to so many of our AIA Brooklyn events that it's easy to think she has an identical twin. She has dedicated herself to some of our important projects like our first-ever all-Brooklyn exhibition that hung at the L10 Public Library throughout the month of April. Judy has been instrumental in planning fascinating tours and Learning Unit events while helping our committees find places to meet. Her social moxie has expanded our individual and collective networks.
We were all stunned to learn that someone so full of life could endure a significant health event, but of course, Judy will rebound.
Judy has been deeply involved in the AIA Brooklyn community and has helped support events, programs, and relationships that bring architects, designers, students, and allied professionals together.
Judy and SARA New York
Judy has played an important role in the SARA New York community, especially through her support of student events, networking programs, fundraising efforts, and community gatherings.
She has helped host and organize events, secure raffle prizes, welcome students and emerging professionals, and make SARA New York programs feel open, generous, and connected. Her work has helped strengthen the bridge between architects, students, sponsors, and allied professionals throughout New York City.
For Judy, community has never been an abstract idea. It has been something she has built event by event, conversation by conversation, and introduction by introduction.
Judy has helped create the spaces where our community gathers, learns, and supports one another.
Now It Is Our Turn to Show Up for Judy
Judy has spent years showing up for our community.
Now we have the opportunity to show up for her.
Please join us on August 6, make a donation, share the page, and help us support Judy “Chie” Hasegawa during her recovery.
