This course explores the importance of using natural light in the built environment. This course will provide an overview of the benefits of natural light along with impacts experienced by building occupants and owners. Automated shading is introduced as a daylight management solution to maximize natural light, preserve views, prevent glare, minimize solar heat gain, and reduce energy use.

  1. Be able to recognize the benefits of natural light exposure and access to views while indoors.

  2. Be able to identify the impact of daylight and view preservation on building occupants and owners.

  3. Understand the benefits of daylight management and its role in healthy occupant-focused buildings.
