Farwell Message: SARA National President Asaf Yogev (2022-2023)

Dear Members of the Society of American Registered Architects (SARA),

I hope that you had wonderful holidays. As my term draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey we've shared as a community dedicated to the craft and ethos of architecture. Serving as your President has been a profound honor, witnessing the collective efforts that define our Society.

My deepest gratitude extends to the esteemed Board of Directors, devoted committees, and each member whose dedication has propelled us forward. Together, we've tirelessly upheld our commitment to provide unwavering services, transcending geographical bounds to support members across the nation

.

Our mission of 'Architect helping architect' demands intentional action, often requiring effort to feel natural. Over the past two years, my focus centered on aligning our endeavors with the needs and expectations of our SARA membership. The challenge lies in translating this mission from mere words to tangible reality.

At its core, I firmly believe this mission embodies a profound sense of love: a love for our craft, our collective vision, the relationships fostered within our team, and the responsibility we bear for the well-being of our planet. This ethos necessitates understanding that supporting one another, whether through monumental efforts or the smallest gestures, benefits not just individuals but the entire profession.

Our legacy isn't solely in the stone our buildings are made of but in the relationships cultivated through our work. Our commitment to prioritizing "Architect Helping Architect" distinguishes us, setting us apart from other societies and associations. It underscores the essence of our profession—one founded on collaboration, mentorship, and the shared pursuit of elevating each other's craft.

SARA's focus on providing services and opportunities to our members, such as targeted no-cost continuing education, our Design Award programs celebrating your visions and successes, our student mentoring event and our advocacy for aspiring architects, has significantly contributed to doubling our membership and furthering our mission. We're immensely proud of these achievements and eagerly anticipate continuing this growth and expansion.

As I step down as president, I intend to remain involved and active with SARA, supporting our new administration and incoming President Ronnette Riley in furthering our mission. I extend my gratitude to our Executive Director, Fabiyan Pembelski, for tirelessly keeping me on track and pushing our board when needed.

Finally, I wish to thank everyone for their kindness and understanding that allowed me to perform this important work while being a father to Sofia, allowing her to be a part of our SARA family as much as you have all been a part of ours. This part of our life has been a great lesson and a valuable experience to both of us.

With deepest appreciation and warm regards, wishing you a very happy new year.

Asaf Yogev, SARA

SARA National President 2022-2023
