Currently the Society has Councils in the states listed below. We encourage members in other states to form a Council, so as to have a common voice when dealing with issues affecting the profession within the respective states. Pennsylvania CouncilThe Society encourages member-architects in states that currently do not have a council to establish one. By working together in their state they will be able to strengthen the profession, have a stronger voice with state and local governments, and many other benefits.
How to Form a Council
Any three (3) architect-members within a state may petition the Executive Board, for authority to form a Council. However, no two (2) Councils shall be formed within the same state.
1. Any Society member is automatically a member of the Council of his state or residence or become's so upon formation of a Council, if none exists at present. No Council shall abridge the right of any member in good standing of this Society to participate in the activities of the Council of his state of residence. Neither may any individual member of the Society abridge the right of a Council to obtain from the Society that portion of his membership dues properly due it under the provisions of the Societies By-Laws.
2. Councils shall be named by their geographic location, i.e., Illinois Council of the Society of American Registered Architects.
Council Regulations Councils when authorized by the Executive Board shall prepare for approval of the Executive Board a set of By-Laws which By-Laws shall not contravene any provisions of the National By-Laws. Councils shall elect officers and delegates and transact their own business (being solely responsible for their own debts) all within the confines of these By-laws. They shall at all times conform to National Policy as established by National Headquarters.
Chapters of a Council Any Council may, at its option, create local area Chapters within the state. Officers of the Chapter shall be represented as State Regents to the governing State Council.
Limitations No Council or Chapter, unless specifically authorized by the Executive Board of the Society, shall have authority to pledge the credit of the Society, or to bind the Society in any other respect.
Councils Officers Each Council shall have a President with as many subordinates offers as deemed desirable by the Council.
Elections and installations of Council offers shall be made to coincide with installation of National Officers (October of each year)
Council Presidents shall automatically be members of the Executive Board.
Council Status Reports Each Council shall prepare quarterly financial and activity reports for submission to the Executive Board. Each quarterly report shall be received by the Executive Board by the 7th day of each new quarter.
