2006 STUDENT STRUT PROGRAM

The Society of American Registered Architects (SARA) announces a new program called THE STUDENT STRUT.

This unique program initiated by the National Board of Directors of the Society of American Registered Architects will give students from around the world the opportunity to “Strut their Stuff” before a jury of distinguished working professionals in the architectural and design world.

This program is being made available to any matriculated college student from around the world. This innovative offering by SARA is open to any undergraduate or graduate student who wishes to have their design work evaluated by a panel of Licensed Professional Architects. This panel is comprised of men and women who are members of the College of Fellows for the Society of American Registered Architects (SARA), gathered from around the USA.

SARA has decided that rather than host a design Awards program that causes for a competition between students of varying skill levels and schooling, that each and every submission will be evaluated on its own merits. This will better allow for a free exchange of ideas between the student and a mentor-like professional counterpart and provide to the student critical comments by Architects for students from around the world who wish to have their work seen and evaluated without prejudice or grade.

The submitting student must be currently enrolled in an institute for higher learning at the collegiate level, but not required to be enrolled in an Architectural school or any other Arts program, but simply present to SARA evidence of their current school enrollment and forward their submission in the format described below. The submission should clearly describe and illustrate the efforts of their creativity for evaluation by other design professionals in a manner entirely up to the student. The only requirement is that the submission be e-mailed to cmoscato@sara-national.org, readable in a PC environment and the attachment can not be larger than 3 megabytes and be in PDF format.

Every submission will be responded to within 60 days of submission with a written report including helpful direction, advice and criticism uncovered during the course of the critique. Along with the report, each student will receive a handsome certificate from the Society commemorating the effort of the student suitable for inclusion in the student’s portfolio. This reflection of effort on the part of the student may be helpful as possible extracurricular credit on the academic level and certainly enhance a student’s portfolio once the student moves out into the workforce.

All work will be considered including, but not limited to, architectural design, landscape design, interior design, graphics, and renderings by hand and CGI, fine art, sculpture, filmmaking, furniture design, lighting design and any other art media that the student wishes to submit for unbiased critique.

There is no entry fee for this service and it is being provided for solely as a gesture of camaraderie to the student world from a group of dedicated professionals from SARA. The student will allow for the publication of any submission as a condition for their participation in the program, yet the student will retain all copyrights associated with the submitted work without restriction other than the rights to be published by SARA within SARA’s printed
media and promotional materials.
