The Company:

The Institute for Building Technology and Safety (IBTS), a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, exists to provide impartial evaluations, research and technical assistance to reduce the burden on Federal, state and local government agencies.

IBTS strives to provide private sector efficiency with governmental credibility. Located in Herndon, Virginia, IBTS has a staff of 120 people, including engineers, architects, inspectors, and regulatory specialists. It has field personnel located throughout the nation. The Institute's multi-disciplined staff of engineers and technicians has expertise in program administration, performance measurement, auditing, quality management, information systems and support, housing/building regulations, and design and construction contract administration.

Responsibilities:

  • Examining plans.

  • Calculations and specifications for legal and technical compliance with applicable standards, ordinances and building code/laws.

Duties include:

  • Plan review.

  • Acting as the technical advisor on electrical problems and code requirements.

  • Reviewing the work of other personnel to ensure uniformity with the interpretation and enforcement of code requirements.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Certification as a registered architect.

  • B.S. / B.A. in Architecture or related field.

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • 10 or more years of experience with increasing levels of responsibility in design and construction for a wide variety of building systems in projects of all scale including multi-family residential, restaurants and high rise buildings.

  • A detailed understanding of IBC and related codes.

Director, Franchise Design Services

Description

This position is responsible for managing the architectural needs of the franchisees and their consultants for the growth of the franchise program by coordinating with Franchise Sales Directors, Franchise Operations, providing critical information to outside consultants, reviewing progress documents and overseeing the brand standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide conceptual site plans for potential franchise
    new construction projects
  • Provide architectural and FF&E development services for
    Franchise conversions
  • Provide exterior renderings for architectural
    enhancements on potential conversion properties using
    Photoshop
  • Review architectural plan specifications
    and design submittals for franchise new construction and
    conversions
  • Review and make recommendations on
    Franchise interior design packages to meet Company
    Standards
  • Maintain and update prototype plans and
    FF&E standard manuals
  • Review and evaluate outside
    vendors, and suppliers products to meet Company Standards
  • Support to Franchisees and their outside consultants to
    provide directions of Brand Standards Correspondence by
    letter or plan documents
  • Solicit, hire, train and
    manage outside consultants hired to perform prototype
    updates, PIPs and plan reviews.
  • Negotiate and
    coordinate all contractual agreements with the outside
    design consultants
  • Review the draft PIP with the
    consultants prior to submitting the final PIP to the
    franchise sales consultant
  • Develop various design
    solutions that addresses required design/operational
    program
  • Perform site visits to hotels under
    construction for inspections of construction materials, device and fixture locations and general compliance with documents and prototype standards

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor Degree in Architecture
  • Master's preferred
  • Registered Architect in the State of Texas required

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • 7 to 10 years in commercial architecture
  • Commercial site planning and conceptual design
    experience is required
  • Hotel experience required

 MINIMUM SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be capable of using digital photography equipment
    and able to use photo modification software
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Release 2000

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Working conditions of the position are in a normal
    office situation
  • May work alone or closely with others
  • Work is completed sitting at a desk or table with
    intermittently standing and stooping
